Secure Multi-Factor Authentication Framework for Cloud Based Distributed Computing Systems
Abstract
The rapid adoption of cloud computing and distributed computing systems has significantly transformed the storage, processing, and sharing of digital information across organizations and industries. Despite the numerous advantages of scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency, cloud-based distributed environments face major security challenges related to unauthorized access, identity theft, password attacks, and data breaches. Traditional authentication mechanisms based solely on usernames and passwords are insufficient to protect sensitive cloud resources against evolving cyber threats. This research proposes a Secure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Framework for Cloud-Based Distributed Computing Systems to enhance access security, user verification, and data protection. The proposed framework integrates multiple authentication factors including passwords, biometric verification, One-Time Passwords (OTP), behavioral authentication, and device-based verification to establish a robust and adaptive security model. The framework utilizes encryption techniques, secure communication protocols, and intelligent risk-based authentication mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access and improve trust management in distributed cloud environments. Experimental evaluation is conducted using simulated cloud infrastructure and distributed authentication modules to analyze authentication accuracy, response time, security strength, and system reliability. Results demonstrate that the proposed MFA framework significantly improves authentication security, reduces identity-based attacks, and enhances overall system resilience compared with conventional single-factor authentication systems. The study contributes toward the development of secure, scalable, and intelligent authentication mechanisms for modern cloud computing infrastructures.
