Energy Efficient Hybrid Routing Algorithms for Mobile Ad Hoc and Wireless Communication Networks
Abstract
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) and wireless communication networks are characterized by dynamic topologies, limited bandwidth, and energy-constrained nodes, making routing efficiency a critical challenge. Energy-efficient routing is essential to prolong network lifetime, reduce communication overhead, and ensure reliable data transmission. This study focuses on the design and analysis of hybrid routing algorithms that combine proactive and reactive routing strategies to achieve optimal energy utilization in MANETs and wireless networks. Hybrid routing protocols aim to balance the trade-off between route discovery delay and energy consumption by adapting to network conditions in real time
The proposed framework integrates energy-aware metrics such as residual battery power, node stability, link quality, and hop count into routing decisions. By leveraging both on-demand route discovery and pre-established routing tables, hybrid algorithms improve scalability and reduce routing overhead in highly dynamic environments. Additionally, the study explores the integration of machine learning techniques to predict node mobility and optimize routing paths proactively
The research evaluates performance based on parameters such as energy consumption, packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, network lifetime, and routing overhead. Results indicate that energy-efficient hybrid routing algorithms significantly enhance network performance, extend operational lifetime, and improve reliability in mobile and wireless communication systems, making them suitable for applications in disaster management, military communication, IoT networks, and mobile computing environments
